Trane manufacturers quality air conditioners, heat pumps, and gas furnaces. Trane also produces some of the highest efficient residential equipment in the industry. The additional parts and labor extended warranty (for an additional fee) is a great addition to the purchase of a new Trane system.

This air conditioner has caused me nothing but problems. Had the service people out here 5 times since it was installed over a year ago to repair various problems but mainly it has a leak and they can't seem to find. The warranty just ran out so I'm stuck with the bills from this lemon.

This Trane air conditioner unit runs good. Had a small problem with it about a month after it was installed but the contractor came out right away and fixed it no charge because I got a good warranty with it. It has two stage cooling so it has good energy efficiency which helps the electric bill a lot.

Trane AC - minor warning
written by Joseph Spenner, June 04, 2008
Last May, my Carrier AC failed. Turns out I needed to replace the AC as well as the furnace. I purchased a Trane XL19i AC unit for outside, and a XV80i furnace for inside. Everything has been working great. However, I recently discovered packrats living in the outdoor unit. To my astonishment, there is a HUGE opening where the cables/tubes connect the unit to the house. My old Carrier didn't have such an obvious design flaw. I suspect any animal smaller than a cat could take residence inside the AC unit. The packrats did some damage, but nothing too severe. Keep in mind that damage due to a packrat would probably not be covered under warranty since no components failed. Instead, you'd be charged and advised to get an exterminator to fix the design flaw.
I promptly patched the hole with some screen and spoke with my local dealer. I was surprised how unconcerned they were with this issue.

If you buy a Trane, patch the giant hole!

Ripped off $8000 Trane unit constantly breaks down
written by Paul Woodthorpe, August 09, 2008
I bought this unit new in fall 2005. It has completely failed twice and has had one problem after another. Things constantly break down. Each repair is hundreds of dollars.

Advice: buy the most comprehensive warranty you can because the units are crap.

trane problems
written by steve stribley, August 15, 2009
i bought my trane system seer 12 in 2003. Every summer there seems to be a another reason it goes out, which in texas is never a good time. A next door neighbor has a generic brand longer than 10yrs and ive only seen his repaired once the whole time. Well today the repair man came out showed me where the aluminum connection at the base of the unit has sprung a leak and no freon will stay in it. He said copper in my neighbors unit makes it more durable than the aluminum in my trane. Of course my warranty is out, i paid 3500 dollars for it 6 years ago and its absolutely useless now do to the aluminum in the coils thanks trane.
