Samsung Mini-Split Ductless Review

Samsung produces mini-splits from 9,000 BTU's to 27,000 BTU's and they refer to their line of mini-split products as Quietside. Some of the features of Samsungs Quietside mini-split ductless units are quiet operation, eco-friendly R-410A refrigerant, dehumidification feature, remote control, and timer and sleep function.

Samsung ductless unit - 5 years old - broke down. No parts located in the USA. They have to be shipped from Korea. Shipping cost can cost over $ 100 + the cost of the part, wait time over 4 weeks (if lucky). After spending $ 1900 to get a $ 4500 unit fixed, only to find out that the real part needed is not available. This unit is now obsolete and I have to buy a new unit, including the wall mounted units going inside the house. After doing some research, I found out that Samsung dumps it old, non-selling units on the USA market for a cheap price. If it breaks down, you are screwed.

I have a vacation rental, My HVAC contractor is great. It's my understanding that there is a 5 year warranty on part and I don't know about the labor. But my contractor is working with me.

My contractor recommended the 4 mini splits that I purchase. Out of the 4 only was has worked properly from day one. Every month since installation last June I've had a service call on one or another. From understanding the uniqueness of the units and the fact that in my case I have two handlers per apartment (4 apartments total) which must be on at the same time to prevent the unit from freezing in the summer. To lately over the last 6 months three of the units are flashing P-8 (refridgerate) a different times, to the electronic board being sensitive and blowing fuses and/or needing replacements to this leaking problem in which have been reviewed by others.

My property is located in Galveston and built on pier and beams. My contractor went underneath the house and discovered that the two copper pipes rubbed against each other and caused a leak. We fix that, then 3 days later one unit was flashing D1 and another was beeping??!!

WE put in new boards and was provide a new unit for another apartment. Then there was a rain storm and the lights went out and the new unit wouldn't turn on??!! When the contractor came to check that out, he found that the freon was low after servicing the unit just 8 days earlier.

Now, a unit that had been working well for the last 6 months must be leaking, after service the unit in one day, a day later the unit is flashing p8 again.....Personally, I wouldn't recommend these unit. I'm searching for other manufacturer option.

The energy efficiency is horrible. When, the units are not running daily. My electricity bill is approximately $50.00 a month for 750 sq. ft apartment. When the units are running the electricity bill goes upwards of $260.00 a month x four units????!!! I hate these units.

I'm about to contact the manufacturer for a corporate intervention. A design flaw is an understatement. The manufacturer should recall these units and refund money or design an entirely new unit.

This unit is really nice and quiet, but the reliability and warranty service/support by Samsung is terrible. The unit developed an internal leak after about 60 days due to a manufacturing defect. After a whole month of run around and $200 in diagnostic costs, I was finally able to recover part of the cost of the diagnostics and still have a unit with a leak that I need to have repaired at my own expense. If you decide you want to try one of these, be sure you have coverage from your installer because Samsung won't help you even when it's their problem. I saw where the leak was located, and I'd say this is a design flaw and a future problem for anyone installing this unit.
